Paddle Trust, formally known as The Canoe Foundation, provides grants of £500 to £10,000 to charities, clubs, community groups, councils and organisations across the UK with an interest in improving accessibility to waterways and facilities for all.
The trust has very specific aims around helping to sustainably improve access on our waterways through launch points, steps, ramps and platforms to help people physically get on the waterways near to them. They explain that, through infrastructure, they want to improve enjoyment of the recreation we love, and protect the environment we care about too.
The type of projects supported include:
- Launch and landing platforms, steps or ramps.
- Improvements to pathways and accessible routes to the water’s edge.
- Signage and information that promotes positive behaviour (Countryside Code, “Check, Clean, Dry”, take your litter home etc).
- Designated or additional parking for water users.
- Works to address erosion and create more sustainable access points.
- Projects that actively engage water users in helping protect/enhance the waterway environment
- Projects that can benefit more than one user group.
- Projects that benefit all paddlers, rather than private member facilities
Applications to the paddle Trust should be made via their website, which has further detail and application guidance articles. The trust has 2 open funding rounds per year.
