Baron Davenport is a grant making charity providing grants for projects, with grants being offered to organisations established for the benefit of children and young people under the age of 25, within 60 miles of Birmingham Town Hall. Grants are usually in the range of £200 to £1,000 although larger amounts have been offered at the discretion of the Trustees.
The charity provides a list of the types of organisations they support, which include:
- Uniformed groups eg. scouts, guides, sea cadets
- Groups supporting disadvantaged children; providing holidays for children; supporting young people with learning/ physical difficulties
- Youth clubs
- Faith organisations doing work specifically with young people
- Playgroups
This is not exhaustive and they say that applications need not be limited to these areas, as long as the project and organisation is benefitting children and young people. Baron Davenport is also fairly unique as it considers applications for special projects, equipment and running costs so is quite flexible in what it is happy to fund.
Applications are by letter and the charity’s website details the types of details that you have to include in your application. Baron Davenport also try to visit organisations throughout the year, especially those that are applying for the first time so it is essential you provide them with the correct contact details.
The charity says that all grant applications are acknowledged promptly and all applicants are notified of the outcome of their request for funding.
Applications are considered twice-yearly and funds are granted at the end of May/beginning of June (Spring) and at the end of November/beginning of December (Autumn). Applications for the Spring funding round should be received no later than 15 March and for the Autumn no later than 15 September.
