A Foundation who supports music initiative is the Universal Music UK Sound Foundation’s Instrument and Equipment Awards, which aims for schools, individual students and teachers to improve their access to music through the purchase or upgrade of musical instruments and equipment.
The Foundation provides grants up to £1,500 towards the purchase of musical instruments and/or equipment for individuals who are in full time education and Schools who require the equipment to fund music education. They also fund courses and training opportunities for music teachers who work within schools, which makes this a fantastic opportunity for both students and teachers of music to improve their musical interests and abilities.
The eligibility criteria is fairly straightforward, with the foundation funding:
- Individuals in full time education wanting to purchase musical instruments/equipment
- Schools funding music education (excluding national curriculum music teaching costs and peripatetic teachers)
- Music teachers working within schools to fund courses and training
- Bursaries for Students at the 8 recognised UK/Ireland Music Colleges
The application form and further guidelines for the Bursary Awards and other information on Universal Music UK can be found on their website.
Please note that due to COVID-19 the Foundation may not be currently accepting applications – please check the website for information.
