Recently a school we are working with told us about a grant scheme to bring Schools together from the UK and Germany, which we thought was a fantastic opportunity for young children to discover and learn about the culture and language of two very different European countries.
The Challenge Fund funding of up to £5,000 to support for UK and German schools to take part in themed projects designed to inspire young people to get involved in ‘relevant interaction, learning and dialogue.’ The Fund also provides financial support for mutual visits and aims to enhance pupils’ international experience and intercultural awareness by supporting UK and German Schools in their partnerships.
The Fund stipulates a list of project themes, which are:
- Sport and Healthy Living
- Energy and the Environment
- Business and Enterprise
- Citizenship
- Science and Technology
- Politics and Public Speaking
- Geography
Before you begin, schools must first find a school in Germany to be partnered with, which the website provides information and help on found here. Once a link has been established, the project can commence and must meet certain criteria. One main requirement is that there must be at least 10 pupils from both schools participating in trips to the other country. There are also further stipulations which you can find on the website.
