The Society for the Promotion of Roman Studies runs a grant programme to help promote the teaching of Latin and Roman Studies in schools. The grants range from £50-£600 and are mainly awarded for the purchase of textbooks and other books and resources for Roman Studies. However, awards are also made to schools and museums organising lectures on study days on Roman themes, especially if they benefit large numbers of children throughout the year. Grants are not awarded for one-off school trips or events as the society wants schools to have a commitment to Roman Studies.
Applications are particularly welcomed from both primary and secondary schools wanting to start Latin courses, with the majority of the schools supported being secondary. There is no formal application form but schools are expected to provide information about the level of their departmental budget, the type of courses bought, and in the case of applications for books, the types of books requested, including their costs.
There are three deadlines each year, so applications should reach the Roman Society by 1stFebruary, 1st July or the 1st November, with further information given on their website.
