Who our Bid-Writing courses are for
Whether you are new to grant fundraising, looking to build on your fundraising experience, or you are supporting others to make grant funding applications, Get Grants Bid-Writing Course will help you to grow as an organisation, launch an important project, or bring your dream to life.
Previous attendees include fundraisers from a variety of backgrounds, for example charities, community groups, sports clubs, and schools – all with differing levels of experience. Whether you are looking to hone your existing grant fundraising skills, or you want to write your very first application – this course will be relevant for you.
What to expect
The Get Grants Bid-Writing Course clarifies the grant funding process, so that you leave the course with a more assured approach to the task of grant fundraising. We use our training course to share our insights and experience from inside the world of grant fundraising and grant giving, setting you on the right path and arming you with the information you need to make the best use of your time and energy spent fundraising.
What topics we cover
On our Bid-Writing Course, you will cover a range of topics to equip you with a solid foundation of grant fundraising best practice. You will:
- Discover how to find funding opportunities and how to decide which funds are right for you.
- Learn different tactics you can use to argue Need.
- Explore Impact and Outcomes.
- Investigate common errors, reasons applications are rejected, and top tips for increasing your success rates.
- Learn how to write funding applications that present your organisation as credible and trustworthy.
- Understand how applications are assessed and start to look at your applications from the perspective of the funder.
Our Bid-Writing Course sessions are open and conversational, with a mix of group work and individual tasks, offering a friendly and relaxed environment with plenty of opportunities to ask questions throughout the day.
Course Delivery
Currently our Bid-Writing Course is delivered via Zoom, across two lots of 2-hour sessions, leaving some time in between to read further course material and reflect on the information given.

About the Trainer
Andrew Ellison has 8+ years’ experience in the voluntary sector, principally working in fundraising.
He has worked for charities of all sizes supporting a range of causes from tackling homelessness, mental health, medical research to supporting young people, international development work and sports-based projects.
Having previously worked as a sole fundraiser for 3 years at a homeless charity based in London, generating, he managed all their income streams to deliver hugely successful results and grow the charity’s income and sustainability. In that time, he also obtained a Fundraising Qualification from the Chartered Institute of Fundraising (CiOF).
He has a wide range of experience of securing a diverse range of grants (i.e. National Lottery, Esmee Fairburn, Children in Need) to support charitable organisations to deliver their vital work.
Andrew is passionate about the voluntary sector and has volunteered at a number of charities – Foundation Against Cancer, St Mungo’s, ScotsCare, Projects Abroad. He is also a career mentor at his previous university (Heriot-Watt University) supporting students to develop their confidence, employability, skills and knowledge to boost their prospects upon graduating.
He is a Bid Writer with Get Grants supporting a wide range of organisations to boost their fundraising income, is leading Get Grants Training development and also delivers our Fundraising for Beginners course.
Aside from his fundraising career, Andrew is a keen traveller and loves exploring new parts of the world and experiencing new cultures. He is also a keen sports fan, in particular football and tennis, and (sadly for him) he is a passionate Everton fan.
